Re: Johnson 15 horse 1956?

Very nice, thank you for sharing the pictures.

I agree with the previous poster, I would love to have it, and hate to have it. I don't display my old motors, I use them regularily.

It is a thing of beauty and should be preserved in a museum somewhere. It has tremendous value, but only to a VERY few collectors, and they are getting fewer.

The same thing with pristine early 50's cars. There just aren't as many people collecting them or appreciating them anymore, so what do you do with all the ones that have been saved. It is a shame.

Thanks again,

I did have it on the boat for a bit and ran it, still needs to be broken in, I plan on running it a little but not to much, I want to keep it all original and clean, I do have a full motor cover for it.. may have to vaccum seal it in a bag..:p

I've got an FD-10 as well. I know that 18 hp lower units will fit, as will the '56 and '57 10 hp. Many parts are interchangeable up into the 70's.

I have a 1954 CD-11 that is re-painted, but otherwise completely original, and looks like new. I have several other collectable outboards too, and I run them all. I would run that 15 all you want, because you know more outboards get ruined through lack of use than they do by being run.

Even though using it will put some wear and tear on it, you will get far more looks and great conversations about it whenever you take it out, as people above said, you just don't see old '50s engines much, so it will be entertaining to all boaters who do see it. This is far better than languishing in some dark corner of a garage or obscure museum. It was built to be used and enjoyed, and you only live once, take good care of it and have fun!
