Re: Johnson 150 Fast Strike Help??

I have given up. I rebuilt and replaced everything I can think of. My solution is to just deal with it.

Why so many this year. Or, if 10 % corn squeezins has been used for the past 10 years, then i would ,or should have had this problem long before now. Do you think the alcohol blend may be changing? I use shell or texaco 89 almost always. It seems that only no name stations advertise no alky..... so.... with a limited number of refineries all blending 10%, where in the #$%^& do they get it? Has anyone here used a test kit on no alky stations to see if they really alcohol free? Maybe our oil was blended wrong. What oil are you all using? 100 evinrude here.

You could check the recirulation valves and hoses. Check the diaphram in the vaper pump on the VST. Air leak at Vacuum switch located on the VST. Install clear hose between VRO pump and carbs, bubbles indicate air leak in fuel system.

Re: Johnson 150 Fast Strike Help??

Thanks Clanton for the seat gasket help on another thread.,,
SO......got my motor on the road to recovery!!!!! As we all here have the sit a while then start, sputter cough wheeze gag puke smoke then high idle to "clear" then run pretty well till stoping again problem, mine was WARPED BOWLS!!! The gasket that seals the main jet pitto tube was only sealing in 1 carb. . So......400 grit sandpaper on FLAT surface being careful NOT to sand off the sealing lands on the corners ( if it doesn't go flat, new bowl) got them all back to useable.
watch when installing the bowl gasket as it wants to suck into the bowl on the flange side. I pulled it out to "center" it on the bowl. Also the pitto tube gasket is .050 smaller in dia. than oem, so center it carefully.

I got the kits here on iboats, though they need to check the contents closer as one kit had no pitto tube seal and another had 2 type "b" gaskets so i had to use old 1's in a pinch, and installed them.
Pumped the bulb, no leaks, on the pipe and started:)

Heat soak is not the problem on mine......though a case could be made for it by the symtoms described here.......
I had dirty needle & seats.... Carbs would leak out the front & flood.
New kits w/ N & S was the cure for me

LEaking carbs aren't heatsoak symptoms, thats just leaky carbs.
You might get heatsoak now you installed metal bowls but its not impossible to deal with, just leave idling to cool block and pump bulb before re-firing.

When posts just end, I guess the problem either went away, living with it, or was fixed. SO............was this a happy ending??????

Re: Johnson 150 Fast Strike Help??

I have a 1999 150 Johnson Ocean Pro so I guess it is basically the same as the fast strike. It too is experiencing the same issue.

1. Starts up cold perfect and runs until warm then idles slows like normal.
2. Runs great when cold.
3. Runs great when warmed up over 3000 RPM prrrrrfect.
4. Once warm it will not idle.
5. Can pump ball with no changes.
6. Cleaned Tank no changes.
7. Recut fuel hose line ends and retightened clamps no changes.
8. When I take off the intake baffle the carbs look wet.

Did anyone find out for sure the fix. Sir Robin claimed two things fixed his which one fixed it? Warped bowl or dirty needle and seat.

Any help would be appreciated it is making me crazy:eek:

welcome aboard hydrasport, you need to start a new thread, this is 6 yrs old, long since dead.
Don't dig up old posts or hi-jack threads, it makes it difficult to use the search function when others come along.
Just start a new thread you'll get lots of help.

Re: Johnson 150 Fast Strike

I just purchased a boat with a 1998 Johnson Faststrike 150. Should have done more home work before buying.....live and learn.

None the less. I have a few questions.

There is loud injector tick. Sounds like a loud valve tick.....I was told this is normal, but suspect it isn't.

Also, after running it a few times, it just stopped. It sucked the primer bulb flat. To me this seems like some type of fuel line restriction. But I made sure all the filters were clear and they were. I put more gas in it, although it was not near empty, and it ran. Any ideas? Are am I doomed to have problems with this engine?
