FATZBullet,
so it looks like there is indeed another barrel that looks to be polyurethane (as in skateboard wheels material) and not JUST the black barrel that the OP has.

Also not sure what is different between the two pics, is it the position of the screw and washer at the far right (middle of edge)?

Yes, there is a clear sleeve over the black roller. It is all one piece, not sold separately. The clear sleeve tends to fall off and you never notice. Mine did the same thing. You need to just buy a new roller. Once you install it, with the engine off and the air silencer off, advance your throttle at the helm and make sure the throttle plates behind the carbs start to open at the exact moment the timing advance lever starts to move. If not you will need to adjust it. This is important. Good luck

The problem is the roller is not against the timing arm(yellow space).....

Faztbullet,You are absolutely correct . I do have a Hot Foot and the advance arm was in the correct position, but the clear sleeve was missing and the throttle plates were moving extremely late . Mine is now in the position of the second picture . I was able to tryout today and it is like a different outboard , there was no hesitation and idle was much better.I also gained about400 RPM at WOT due to the plates opening correct .I had replaced the VRO pump in the spring due to the seals leaking and had found what I thought was apiece of hose in the cowl cover ,evidently it was the outer sleeve of the follower .I do know that the 13 bucks caused a lot of concern and aggravation . Thanks to all you guys that had sent into my thread . I really feel better about it . If I could just get on some good fish I would be in good shape !!!!!!!!

1/8 ounce shakey head down by power plant would be good start..rootbeer/green during day. Sweet Beaver Tramp Stamp/Hematoma color at night, this is what I use at Dale Hollow.
