Johnson 150 w/ optical ignition won't fire

A friend's Johnson 150 w/ optical ignition system won't fire when cranked for the 1st time of the day unless you tap repeatedly on top of the powerpack housing with an object such as a screwdriver handle or pocketknife. When it finally starts, it normally does fine the rest of the day. It sometimes stumbles a time or two during the first few munutes of high speed operation, then this too goes away for the rest of the day. He had a new powerpack installed last year.

Sounds like you have a bad connection somewhere. Check the two connectors on the powerpack first. Also check that the ground wire from the powerpack has a good connection to the powerhead. If these are not the problem, unfortunately may be the powerpack again.

I would clean the paint off the grounds as well have seen the same a few times, once was the pack other was the ground on the power head.
