What should my water pressure be at idle? I removed the thermostats should I have water pressure with them removed? I don't plan on running it without the thermo's I just wanted to make sure water was being pumped. There was a little coming out the tell tale but no pressure. thanks.

When's the last time the water pump was serviced ?? It could also be the tell tale line or fittings are clogged up.

Re: johnson 150 water pressure

I am not too sure when the pump was done... I just got this boat and it was a repo so I didn't get any history on it at all. Actually now that I think about it I wont be buying another boat that noone has any idea on what's been done..lol.

I'm just not sure if it would be pissing a good stream with no stats or even have pressure with them out? I am going to back flush that sucker right now and see what happens!!!!

Just back flushed...how much water is supposed to flow out of the screened pick ups in the lower unit? pretty sure my pressure gauge moved a little while the hose was hooked up..

Could my pressure gauge have air in the line not letting it read right? maybe it will take more than idle to get it working prperly?

Is there a pressure relief valve on this engine? 1995 johnson 150 60 degree.

If you have no history of the boat, I'd defineatly pull the g/c and check the water pump. When you get a repo the former owner usually let everything go to hell.

I ordered some temp gauges so I am going to wait until they come and see what temp they are at with the new thermostats. can i start the engine with the hose hooked into the tell tale hook up? Or should I use the muffs....

Your right about previous owner letting everything go to hell! the boat and engine are in great shape but there has not been any maintenance for years and I think it sat around for a long time. It's been in my garage now for a month and I'm getting there but it's slow going. And now I might have pump issues....lol

Re: johnson 150 water pressure

if the thermostats are removed, you wont see much water pressure at all..... I have taken the t stats out of my motor testing stuff.....and with them in at idle it might be 5-9 psi.....maybe 10 at times...with them out, the guage doesn't reat at all....of course the engine is cooling too much....the temp never left 100 degrees.....with the quick start feature you probably don't want the t stats out...bob

Thanks Bob, Thats what I figured. I don't plan on running it without the t stats I just know the one isn't opening and wanted to fire it up. I have a guarantee until the end of the month so I wanted to make sure it ran. I saw on a post you were looking for temp senders do you know what ohm range they are? I just ordered faria temp gauges and the senders I ordered are 240-33 ohms does this sound right?

I heard you needed to match the enders with the guages....hopefully you can buy them together.... I went to the old codger marina guy i know and he sold me the senders.....i went to NAPA, they have a HUNDRED different ones........left there dizzy.

i have a head that gets hotter than the othger......I think it might be carb related....it isnt much, so i live with it....I keep telling myself to go buy two brand new t stats and install them...and see if that works

Re: johnson 150 water pressure

Just got an email back from faria. he said 240-33 ohms is the us standard. if you have euro gauges you need the euro standard ohms. I ordered some off ebay hope they bottom out in the head now...
