During the summer I used my bass boat to pull skiers, thats when my problem began. This is a 1990 150 Johnson GT. First I started fouling plugs. I thought I might be getting to much oil so I disconnected my oil injection and pre mixed the oil. The warning beeper had been going off so I disconnected it too. Now with pre mixed oil I thought my problems would be over. But plugs still fouled and my feul ball would suck closed. I could open the gas tank and it would pump back up. But it would do it over and over so I could not run it. I did check the vent to the gas tank and there were no obstructions. I also checked the check valve in the pick up tube and it was not sticking. I had a boat mechanic tell me today that I should of never bypassed the oil injection systm and I probably need a new oil pump. By bypassing the oil injecter it was making the feul ball suck closed. Please help. I would like to continue pre mixing to advoid buying a $400.00 oil pump right now.

Re: johnson 150GT

When the primer bulb collapses, it is because of the primer bulb itself or something between the primer bulb and the fuel.

Do you have a built-in tank?

If your VRO is the original VRO2 pump, you probably did the right thing in going to pre-mix.

Disconnecting the alarm system totally is the wrong thing to do. You definitely want the overheat alarm to work and you want the fuel obstruction alarm to work; no exceptions, nada, never.

Well, what could be preventing the fuel from reaching the bulb. If I hook back the alarm, how do I stop it from going off. Maybe I did not discconect the oil alarm properly. The mechanic said my boat has something three letters maybe ERC or something that when I disconnect the oil pump it sucks more on the fuel line. Maybe has something to do with fuel injection, but I am not sure I even have fuel injection. I don't know much, but am willing to learn.

Re: johnson 150GT

The fuel ball collapse is generally a fuel line restriction. It can be the anti-siphon valve, kinked hose or a restriction in the fuel pickup in the tank. I have also see the ball valves in the fuel hose primer bulb go bad. Sometimes these balls get stuck when the fuel bulb is upside down in the boat (with the arrow pointing downward.) Be sure it is a 3/8 hose line. I'd put a new fuel hose on it and pull the pickup out of the tank and check it for flow. The factory manual provides instructions for disconnecting the VRO for premixing. 1. install a protective rubber cap (315391) over the oil inlet barb on the pump. Clamp it. 2. disconnect the VROII wiring harness from the pump. 3. I would also disconnect the electrical line to the oil pump reservoir tank. You can save about $100 if you buy a factory replacement premix pump that does not have the oil pump side installed.

Re: johnson 150GT

I have installed two different feul bulbs and replaced the entire feul line. The pickup is clean and unobstructed and the anti siphon is working fine. The vent line in the gas tank is also clean. Knowing all this, can something on the other side from the ball to the motor be causing this? Could the motor somehow be trying to pump more gas than it should causing the bulb to suck closed?
Also is it ever not OK to bypass the oil injector?

Re: johnson 150GT

as far as the oil injection------have no clue.

i did read a thread about a similar prob. turned out the guy had a piece of paper or an oil bottle foil, cant remember which, floating around in the tank---seems like he said about the size of a dime............when it would get close enough to the pickup tube--killed the motor...........after it died and no more sucktion and it would float away for a little while.

if your primer bulb is going flat-------you have a clog, wether it be intermittant or constant, something is stopping you up.
