While i realise there are a number of topics discussing the above engines problems i would be really grateful to hear from anyone with personal experience that would be prepared to give me a detailed account.

I am from a non commercial UK based Dive Club that has been "running" a 150 ficht on a 6.5m rib.

We had a trouble free 1st season but 2 months out of warranty (unfortunately classed as commercial user not leisure!!) had a lower end failure. The dealer and UK distributer claimed this was due to a prop strike (something we are sure didn't happen) - it seems likely with all the bad press that more likely this was an inherant problem with the engine.

Since the first gear failure we have had a second lower end rebuild and powerhead rebuild (crank and crank bearings failed) all this is claimed as a "knock-on" from the alleged prop strike...

Less than 10 hours after the powerhead rebuild the engine has failed again - no compression on top 3 cylinders.

Any specific info, links etc would be gratefully received.

Alastair

Post the model number so we can "see" which motor you have.

Even if you had hit something with your prop it will not cause a gear failure unless you are running a solid hub prop. Even then its extremely doubtful. It certianly will not cause the crank bearings to fail.

The '98 150hp Ficht (built in '97) was one of the worst as far as powerhead reliability goes, DiveVet, but I haven't heard about any drive train problems.
