So I just ahd my motor fixed and it was going fine today, actually better than ever. The timing advanced thing was fixed and now it really opens up. It opens up way past 6000 revs so maybe i need a bigger pitch prop than my 22 pitch.

Any suggestions on this?

Surely the motor should not go way off the tach clock.

Anyway, my real problem right now is that all of the sudden when i got it home today after being out, the Tilt Trim is all messed up, both from the motor and the control. If i push up the motor goes down. if i push down the motor goes up??!!??

Can someone please help me solve this problem? Nothing was done to the motor between working fine and playing up like this apart from a bit of WD-40 being sprayed on the motor.

Appreciate any advice.

the control is wire backwards, or the power supply is backwards. it is a dc motor, if the neg is connected to pos post, like wise the motor will operate the wrong way.

As Tash states....... If the PTT operated normally previously and you've changed nothing pertaining to the PTT wiring, you may have installed the battery backwards OR charged the battery backwards.

If the above is the case, the tachometer should not be functioning as reverse polarity would destroy the charging rectifier.

Let us know what you find.

How can any of this be the case?

I just had a new rectifier put in, i have used the boat all day since then, once i got home now the tilt trim is in reverse. Nothing changed from using the boat to pulling it out of the water.

Ok, so ****ty mistake. Battery hooked up wrong way.

All seems to be working though> tach is working so i should not have stuffed the rectifier.

I hooked the battery up the wrong way after i took it out of the water. Not before.

I've really no idea how it could be the case after you've just validated and explained exactly what happened. I have over thirty years experience with OMC and have never heard of or personally encountered such a happening without someone actually doing something to the wiring somewhere.

Guys, I have an old VDO tach.

Now my mechanic reackons it is not set correctly.

Does anyone know the settings i use for the dip switches. He says '12 pulse'.

The wires come from the OMC controller to the Tach.

Only reference i can find online is for 4 stroke motors with only 3 dip switches. by memory mine has about 6 dip switches.
He says that the reason my revs are going off the clock is probably cause it is wrong.
