I just got a small 5.5 Johnson for a kicker motor. The compression is 80/84. Is this acceptable? Anyone know how fast this should push a 18'4" deep v center console weighing 1500lbs with motor. Thanks for your time.

those compression numbers are okay but not great. It will probably run okay and do a decarb and the numbers will probably come up. It will push that boat, just not very fast. I'd hate to be fighting much current in a river with it as my only motor.

The compression you've got there is pretty common for those engines and nothing to worry about. That being said,it still is a 5.5 and not a 9.9.Do not expect any great performance from that engine on a boat the size you are speaking of.
