Hi, I am trying to sort out the temp sensor wiring on the above engine. There are 2 sensors (1 on each head) which connect to a tan wire.. Am I right in assuming the sensors are open circuit and short to ground when overtemp? Also I found a 3rd tan wire which was not connected, this was close to the main multiconnector (left side/from prop) does anyone know where this goes, is it for a temp/pressure guage?

Thanks...

you are correct about the temp sensor grounding out , which will cause the alarm to go off. the third wire i have the same thing on my 86 j90 i figured it out, it used to go to the oil tank float alarm, the person i got the motor from took off the vro and converted it to premix, is the same for you. so really dont need that wire just make sure it doesnt ground out it will set off the alarm.

Thanks Flipjoe,

No VRO on mine either and did not know it could be fitted with one, if it can (on an 84 model) it might be worth the effort to buy the parts and fit it..
