Johnson 1986 90HP V4 VRO Battery Cable

hi - I am going to replace the above cable as it is damaged - after pricing an OMC part (exhorbitant price ) i have decided to make my own up - does anyone know the starting current of the above so I can get the correct cable? thanks

Hello<br /> yes some of the cables are a bit pricy. most shops here use a #4 cable. if the wire run is under 6 ft. there is a chart around for that.as to the excact starting current I dont know and all my manuals are not here with me.<br /> good luck and keep posting

Thanks for the reply - I have decided to use 25mm2 Welding cable - only $7 / meter (nzd) - nice and flexible and able to take extremely high currents.

The welding cable is a good choice. We've used it many times on stock cars and in boats with long cable runs.<br /><br />Good luck!

It's great flexible wire.<br /><br />The FusionLug is created from the copper wire, using some high pressure press, and then solder dipped. There are no crimped-on lugs, or soldered-on lugs to create problems.<br />They have charts to help you with size recommendations, and current carrying capabilities. Note that these charts are for constant full time loads, and are very conservative.<br />4 gauge will work just fine.
