Hi

I had an overheating problem with my V4 johnson and i was looking into it today, I have just checked the compression and in one of the cylinders theres no compression at all, I opened it up and i see this... (see picture)

I must have run the engine so hot the metal melted away from the rings.

anyway, my question is how hard is it to replace this and is it worth it as my mechanic says the part alone cost $500 and $1600 labor, which i find, the part alone costing that much rubbish?

is it easy to do yourself?

please advice

Looks like it ran too lean.
Is the cylinder wall scored? If so it may be cheaper to find a used powerhead than it would be to repair yours, especially if you are paying someone else to do the repair. Either way, you need to find out why it ran lean or risk repeat failure if the root cause isnt found and fixed.
