just picked up this motor It runs fine. The question is the prop is always engaged. Is this the way it was designed or is there a problem with some shifting element? the control shifter reads stop- slow - start -fast i don't see a shifter for engaging the prop.

any info thanks

Ahoy, Montauk.

Welcome to iboats. :)

That is the way she is intended to work, Montauk. One direction. To "reverse" you spin her around half way. To stop, you turn her off.

That makes her lighter and less complicated. A really great little popper for a canoe, trolling aux or tender.
