Johnson 200 check engine alarm

Hello i am new to the forum, i have a 1996 johnson 200 ocean pro model j2ootxedr that i picked up over the winter. its in the water now and im familiarizing myself with the motor, it tends to smoke alot at start up and im getting a check engine alarm at wot. from what ive gathered these motors tend to smoke alot, but im not sure about the alarm, is it a fuel restriction problem. any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated, thanks. ryan
