Johnson 200 OB 96 model engine started running rough and when I took the cowling off about 2 gallons of water poured out? It looks to be coming toward the back where the fresh water hook up is located? any ideas?
Thanks!

Run the engine on a flushette, with the hood off, and observe where the water is coming form.

Thanks Joe - It look like its coming from the exhaust relief & flushing port area? Its hard to tell because of the space between it and the lower cowling. How hard is it to take the lower cowling off? The motor does not run hot just a steady stream of water when the motor is running.
Thanks for your help

Re: Johnson 200 Water Cowling

I had this EXACT same issue yesterday. I have noticed some corrosion issues on the lowest cylinder/spark plug but was not sure why. Seems it has been leaking for a while but is now a full out flood.

What was the resolution? How do I get to that part? Do I have to take apart the lower unit cowling to get at it? Is that difficult, any issues I need to be aware of?

If I can get to the part, the repair seems pretty straight forward. Either replace the whole part or put some sort of tie wrap or something around the water outtake hose.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

PZ

i have a 99 200. its not a big deal to remove the lower part of the cowling on mine. there is a bolt in the front and back near the seam and a couple on the sides. i also think there may be some stuff up around where the fuel line and controls come thru. on mine the tie wrap that holds the rubber piece that connects to the engine and out of the cowl had broke and was leaking exhuast and some water into the cowl. good luck
