Hi guys, just picked up this engine and am trying to work out where a seemingly loose wire from the kill button should go... Sorry, forgot to grab the serial number and year but it's a pull start, CDI unit, probably early 80's? . I'll describe what I've got...
Kill switch - button is fine - has two black wire from it, one is grounded to the lower coil body and the other is loose...this is what I want to work out!
From the CDI there are two wires, one orange the other orange w/blue trace - these go to the coils, The coils are also both grounded to the cylinder head. I also have a 4 pin plug from the stator head that goes to the CDI pack, these must be the trigger inputs, power right? They are coloured white, black and two brownish ones. I'm guessing the brown ones are from the triggers ?
The orange wires have at some point been cut and joined but to what I have no idea. By splicing the black wire from the kill switch into the orange wire from the CDI to coil I can remove the spark so this is obviously working but I cant splice both the orange wires into the kill wire as this will surely allow both coils to fire at the same time.
I guess I need to splice the wire from the kill switch into one of the 4 wires from the stator to the CDI pack to allow both coils to collapse and stop the engine but which wire will it be ?
Thanks for any help - excellent forum and I've gained a bunch of stuff from it !
Regards
Paul
