johnson 30 hp, year?

hello, i am trying to find out the year of my 30 hp johnson outboard. model # is J30RLCOA, and serial # is E6084128. also, it is a long shaft engine. can a short shaft lower unit bolt right up to it with no changes, and what years will fit? thanks, matt

Hello cat...welcome aboard iboats.<br /><br />Your 30hp is a '85. <br /><br />To bolt up a short shaft, you would need to change out the upper shift rod to a short rod and make sure the drive shaft is also a short drive shaft. Also remove the the extension piece.<br /><br />You would need to pull the power head to change out the shift rod.
