I just got a 30 hp johnson . The problem is the tag is missing from the frame.
I did find the welsh plug with the numbers stamped on it . But it does not seem to help me . I can’t find anything B171608
The carb throws me too has an adjustment for screw at top this only adjust when in gear I think
Stamped on the top of carb 10432703.
Then a metal plate stamped 432702
Can someone tell me year & if carb is correct .
Thank you all
Dale

Looks like a 1989 / 1990 model to me.-----Water pump impeller would be the first item to look for.----Parts are the same year after year on these.------Why do you feel a need to attack the carburetor.----Very little can or goes wrong with them.-----Post the compression numbers if you like for future reference.-----And what starting procedure are you going to use on this motor?-----Hopefully you were instructed to push the key in WHILE cranking it over.

Yes I do push the key in for the choke ? But it is not clicking. So I need to check to make sure it is getting voltage . That is my first attack for that. As for the carb . I had a 25 johnson and the low speed idle was in the front top center. But the 30 carb says it is a plug . So just screw it in all the way and leave it . For the screw on top on the angle is the low idle screw.
Thank you for the help

That plug on front is screwed in snug.---IT is an orifice plug.-----It meters air and is NOT adjustable.----Mixture adjustment screw is on an angle , adjust as needed.----Compression is excellent and even as it should be on any modern motor !

I have the 87 and it's slightly different. I have the low speed screw on the front and then they moved it to the side so I agree 89...90 all the same really.

Are you having any issues with it?

That decal scheme ( black upper part ) was only used in 89 and 90 model years

Yes, the decal set looks exactly like the 1990 Johnson 30HP I used to have. If I recall correctly, the model number was J30RESS.
