I have a 1996 johnson which was converted from tiller to remotes. The problem I have is that the remote box (OMC) has a lever on top which I can pull up or down to adjust idle speed when I first start the motor. When I want to put the motor in gear I have to depress this lever all the way down and then push the control lever (combined gear shift and throttle lever) forward to put the engine in gear and it frequently stalls even when I have let it warm up for a while.
I understand that this is a protective mechanism to stop the user putting the engine in gear at higher revs, but I would like to increase the idle just a tad so it won't stall when I go into gear. On the back of the remotes there is a screw-knob which I thought might adjust the idle but it appears to do nothing.
Can anyone help?
