How do I find out what year my 35 HP Johnson Seahorse outboard is? It has serial # 1904822, but NO MODEL #. I think it is a '60 model, but would like to make sure.

Thanks for any help.

Thanks FR for the quick reply.
Don't smoke cigars anymore, but did for many years... I assume you looked in a Johnson Serial No. book to get 1959.
Did this Johnson Seahorse 35 not use a model No.? Are you familar with this motor? If so, I have one more question...
Thanks, KatchaBigUn :)

RD-21 (RDL-21) for manual start
RDS-21 (RDSL-21 for electric start
"L" just means long shaft

Yeah, you might say I am sort of familiar with it. I serviced a few thousand of them when I was a mechanic in the dealership.

Thanks F-R, now I feel sure you are the one for a good answer...
This motor had been in storage for several years, I recently pulled it into my shop and hooked up gas, water and hot battery and refilled foot with oil. Primed fuel and gave it several whirls with no action. Pulled the plugs, spun it again and was getting no fire. Pulled pull starter rope off of flywheel and opened point inspection slot, filed points with point file (both sets of points) thru the small inspection slot and fire returned to both plugs and it runs like a top. My question is the point cover (that has the inspection slot) was rotated about 15 degrees and was so tight I couldn't remove it to better get at the points. It looks to be pressed into place and has two round pin slots on opposite sides which are now not matching because of the rotation. Are these slots (half in cover and half in flywheel) there for some kind of puller to get cover off to get at the points? If not, what is best way to remove point cover?
Thanks again, KatchaBigUn
