johnson 35 problem

I RECENTLY RECEIVED A JOHNSON 35 JAVELIN ENGINE FOR MY BOAT. IT HASNT BEEN STARTED IN 7 YEARS AND THE LAST TIME IT WAS THE GUY PUT THE GAS CAN ABOVE THE ENGINE AND FLOODED IT AND WE HAVENT GOTTEN IT STARTED SINCE THEN. THE MODEL # IS RU-19M. IF YOU COULD HELP ME OUT WITH ANY INFORMATION I WOULD SO GREATFUL.

Ineed,<br /><br />I think I would start with some fesh spark plugs. You will also want to replace all the hoses under the hood.<br /><br />Once you get it started, I would service the lower unit (replace the fill/drain plug seals) and install a new water pump.<br /><br />The fuel to oil ratio is 50:1. (one pint of TCW-3 oil mixed with 6 gallons of 87 octane fuel)

I think that engine is either a '57 or '58, I'm not sure which.<br />If it's been sitting around for seven years with gas in the carb(s), that's the place to start. <br /><br />Remove the carb(s), clean and rebuild.<br /><br />c/6<br /><br />Hooty

The RD-19 is a 1957 35 HP and the RD-19C is a 1958 35 HP but I never heard of an RU-19 or RU-19M

in 1957 there was an RJE-19 and RJEL-19 also, both 35hp<br />Richard
