We were given a small pontoon with the above outboard. The wiring in the outboard is breaking apart and only one portion of the harness is available for purchase. We have it and now need to replace the rest of the wiring. Can anyone tell me the gauge of wire originally used on this motor, or suggest the best gauge to use?

I believe the battery cables and the wire between the solenoid and starter is 6 gauge. The rest is probably 16 or 18 gauge. Someone can correct me if I am wrong.

I'm no expert, but this is the diagram I have for that engine.

View attachment 79_35_hp_wiring.pdf

It only seems to show the purple/white as 16ga, and a red as 16ga. The other wires aren't showing the gauge, but I'd guess 16ga would do it. (except for the battery cables as 6ga as hardwater fisherman noted.)

And like hardwater, someone please correct me if I'm wrong too! LOL
