I recently bought a 1982 Johnson 35hp 2 cyl. engine. It never really has run great. It seems like it starts cutting out at top speed. However, yesterday when I first put it on the lake it ran better than it ever has, full power, planed out great. Then, near the middle of the day it started cutting out at full throttle. I drove it all the way down the lake at about ten miles per hour. It starts out like it's going to plane out when I throttle up but it starts cutting out. I bought a carb. kit and rebuilt that but nothing changed. Any help???
By the way, the whole time I've owned it it will always only run with the choke closed (on). Open the choke plate and it dies instantly.
