Johnson 3hp wont run

Hi, I have a 3hp j-10 that will start if you spray gas in the carb but after that is gone it stops.I set the carb adjustments like the book said.Any help would be great.

Hi, WillJB.<br /><br />Your carb isn't putting fuel into the airstream.<br /><br />It could be the outlet from the tank. There is a screen there that may be clogged. The valve at the outlet might be clogged, the line from there to the carb, or the carb may be clogged.<br /><br />I would remove the valve assembly from the tank, drain and clean the tank and the line to the carb. If that doesn't reveal the trouble I would overhaul the carb.<br /><br />I don't find a J-10 in my model listing (goes from 1922 through 1964). The JW series of 3 hp engines were made from 1952 (JW-10) to the late 60s.<br /><br />Recheck the model number, and let us know what you find.<br /><br />Good luck.
