Hi guys, I just bought a 1980 (I think) 4.5hp johnson seahorse short-shaft. I runs good but doesn't pump water I see no tell tale and not much spray from the exhaust relief nozzle. The manual says the shift rod is one piece. Has anyone have any experience:redface: with these little engine that can give me a heads up? Thanks

Re: Johnson 4.5hp J5RLCS not pumping water

i had 2 of this motors.
pee hole is under lower cowling.if you look at spark plugs from above , so pee hole is under, just from outside.
here is bear powerhead http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x5faCV8pYkc
shift rod is 1 piece, so if you unbolt lower unit just pul down lower unit and it should do down with no problem

here is alink to 6-8 hp, models its the same basicly construction
