Johnson 4 HP 1971

I have (what I'm told is) a 1971 Johnson 4 Hp Outboard that I'm having trouble finding the right prop hub for. I hit something, sheared the pin and busted the prop hub. <br />My local parts dealer order another one (part #316559 as I recall) but when I tried to put it on the shaft hole was too small. I don't have a manual for the motor so,,, I'm looking for the right part number for the Prop Clutch Hub, Prop Hub Bushing and Shear Pin for this motor. <br /><br />Another part dealer I talked to said the Hub # is 376769, Bushing # is 300619 and Shear Pin is 203230. <br /><br />Model number #4W71D Serial #E3359491. <br />According to the picture I looked at in the local dealer's part book, I have a Weedless Foot.<br /><br />Can anyone out there help me figure out exactly what I have and what I need ? <br /><br />I'm wondering if the foot is off of some older/later model or something like that. <br /><br />Thanks.....<br />you can email me and/or post a message.<br />perk_dp@hotmail.com [/LIST]

Hello perkins and welcome to iboats...<br /><br />Here's the numbers I come up with:<br /><br />Clutch Hub.....316599<br /><br />Clutch Ring.....315471<br /><br />Clutch Bushing....316621<br /><br />The prop I see on my parts break down is a 6 3/8X5 1/2 PN 316651<br /><br />Shear Pin....333513<br /><br />Hope this helps. Did you mean 316559 rather than 316599 ? <br /><br />If so, I tried a 316559 and the shaft hole was too small. I had to drill it out to make it work. (unless they ordered or packaged the part wrong. i didn't verify) <br /><br />I've looked at some of the parts books at my local dealer and am wondering if I have some hibrid. A 1970 foot on a 1971 motor. <br />Or maybe it was an early 71 model and they put leftover 1970 lower units on some 1971 models ? <br />How does one tell ? <br /><br />Would that fact be hidden in the serial number ? <br /><br />Thanks...

Sorry for the typo perkins....that should have been 316559 for the 71' hub.<br /><br />Checking pre 71' hubs, they turned out to be 376769. Cant' tell if the shaft holes are larger or not. Don't know if I got any at the shop I can compare to. Have ta' look. But for sure....all pre 71' hubs are 376769.

I appreciate your help OBJ.... <br />I wonder if I could call the Johnson (OMC) home office / factory. (My motor says somewhere in Illinois) and find out what's up.<br /><br />I expect to find that I have a 1970 foot on my 1971 motor either done by OMC at the factory or by a previous owner. <br /><br />Let me know if you find the 376769 part and it is for a bigger shaft than the 316559. It will only be about 1/32 - 3/64 difference.
