I just bought a like brand new Johnson 4 HP. I knew the fuel line and carb. would be plugged up with old fuel when I got it. My problem is I can't get the front lower shroud off the choke and fuel tank switch so I can get to the carb. I have taken everything loose but the shroud will not fit over the choke knob. The little motor runs perfectly when I squirt premix into the air cleaner but it won't continue to run on its own on either the internal tank or the remote tank so I'm pretty sure the float valve it stuck with old fuel. I just can't get to it. Is there a trick to getting the shroud off? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Cushman45

I really don't have an answer, but from looking at the parts picture I wonder if the choke knob doesn't just pull off???

I'm just impressed by your handle. You into Cushmans? I restored 3 of them.

I will try again with the choke knob. I afraid to pull too hard. I may be able to remove the remote fuel line fitting from the bottom of the shroud and just turn over the shroud to get to the float bowl cover. Thanks, and yes I'm into Cushmans big time. I have eight to ride over to a tourist trap when ever I want. Retired and really enjoying life. I live on the Guadalupe river and love to fish. I have two Vanguard Eagles right now, one that I just finished. I hope I am answering your post in the right place. Mike

I think you will have better luck in the Evinrude/Johnson section.
