johnson 40 4 stroke lack of revs

why will my 2005 johnson 40 not get full revs in forward gear but it will do max revs in reverse?
It was all working fine then overnight it went wrong.
any ideas would be much appreciated

You are down on power, Dalebert. It takes a lot less in R than in F

Could be a cylinder dead, throttle not opening completely, ignition retarded, bad valve, lost compression, etc.

Get a manual and do some preliminaries. Then let us know what you find.

Bad fuel, clogged injector, weak fuel pump, to name just a few more.

It turned out to be a sheared flywheel key
