Hi Guy's & gals

I have a Johnson 40 (I think it's a 92), when I crank it it will fire and run for a few seconds then cut out. To me that sounds like the choke is working?, I've looked at the pump and it's pumping gas when it's cranking so I think I can rule the pump out.

That is the only thing I have looked at, any help will be greatfully appreciated.

Camalot -- A bit more info is needed...is this a remote start or is it a tiller? Did you try to prime it just when it starts to cut out?...and by that I mean the key prime or prime button to enact the primer solenoid...not the bulb on the fuel hose. If you try that & it keeps firing see Top Secret File re: Carb Clean. If you have a way to test engine compression that would also be good. And when you say "pump" do you mean the fuel pump or???...is this a VRO? has VRO been replaced? Do you mix oil w/gas? And are the plugs fairly new? Do you have muffs to work on it at home? Sorry I have 2 many ?'s and not enough answers.
