Hi. I've got a 1972 Johnson 40 on a grew 140ss that I got without a steering system or engine. I've managed over the winter to acquire both, but I'm stumped right at the point of connecting the engine to the cable. Its a teleflex safe-t-steer rotary with the transom bracket. Can anyone tell me what I'm missing in these pictures?

I imagine i'm in need of some factory made part or I need to make up some kind of ball or heim joint. Pictures of a working system would be sweet too :)

thanx in advance gents....Cheers

Grant

Re: Johnson 40 steering bracket

You need a clevis like below. Center the cable with steering wheel and move mounting block around so you have no interference in turning and tilting. You can mount it to splashwell floor to make it work but add reinforcement under it if splashwell is thin.
