Do a search on 'broken shock absorber' in this forum. I believe your model still used that, and if the spring is broken it can act as you describe. I had that issue awhile back, and there are lots of posts addressing it. Good luck!
Spring loaded in a 2-piece case. Expands lengthwise when prop hits an obstruction, causing friction so the motor stops spinning. It's designed to save the prop/gears when you hit a rock. They were used when props didn't have rubber-hubs which perform the same purpose. If yours is broken, it's likely expanded too far for normal operation. Again, search this forum for lots of info.
Yea, I second this. Check your shock absorber. When they break, they often press hard against the upper bearing and sometimes breaking it. Did it act like this before you tore it down? If not, then you may have to open it back up and check your work. Especially check the forward gear bearing and make sure the hole is lined up with the little pin in the gear case.
