Johnson 5.5

Hi ,I was given a Johnson 5.5 with the pressure tank(tank and 2 line hose looks good) the owner told me it came with a boat he bought last year and has never ran for him the previous owner told him it needed coils and plugs. Anyway the motor is green and quite good shape for its age.
Can someone help me with the age, model is cd 11, serial # is 168032
I figured if it half the engine my 1984 15hp sea horse is I might as well try and get somw parts for it.

Looked at the prices of the manuals on the home page...pretty pricey do you recommend skipping the owners manual and the parts manual and just getting the repair manual.
I figure that now that I know the year i have a NAPA in town and they should be able to order for me if I'm reading others posts correct.

As far as the repair manual these other guys can give you a better idea on what to look out for.

Vintageoutboards.com should have parts for that motor. I haven't dealt with Napa on any outboard parts, I have also heard that they can get parts but I don't know if they can get parts for these older motors. I have been lucky enough to have a parts motor laying around or to find the parts local at a mom and pop boat repair shop.

I personally own a few 50's model motors (majority are project motors), if that 54' 5.5hp is anything like my X-59' 5.5hp that I sold then you should have a great little motor as long as you have good compression.

I have the same engine. Have not tried to get it running yet though. Check the compression before buying any parts as if it's not good, I would not invest any time or money into it. Coils are $20 each.

I have an account at NAPA. Even so, I can get the Sierra parts here at iboats at a considerable savings. And just as quick, since NAPA has to order them anyway. To add insult to injury, NAPA charges $15 freight on special order parts that they don't have in their central warehouse. I just placed an order here at iboats this morning.
