Hi
I have a Johnson 50 hp and my throttle is very hard to move. when i had the cable disconnected from the engine it moved very easily but then the linkage on the engine moved freely too. When I attach the cable it becomes almost impossible to move the throttle.
Any Ideas?
Thanks

Re: Johnson 50 Hp control cable

With the engine running or not? Remember that the first cable to move when you move the throttle/shift lever is the shift cable. If the clutch dogs are not perfectly aligned with the engine not running, the lower unit can't go into gear. That's why you should always have someone turn the prop by hand if you are attempting to shift with the engine stopped. If you have the engine running and the unit won't shift, that's a different situation (and keep your hands, kids, and pets away from a running engine).

Thanks
It shifts into gear fine when I begin to accelerate from there Is when it becomes hard. The cable really doesn't have a sharp bend. The only thing I did notice though was the rubber grommet where the cables enter the engine housing will not stay seated in the housing and then where it connects to the linkage it must be twisted to align it with the linkage. Maybe this is the problem?
