Hey everybody. My 2000 50 Johnson (J50PLSSM) died on me the other day when I was cruising around 4200 RPM. It was a quick shut down, didn't slowly bog down or anything. The engine immediately fired back up and I idled back to the dock. Checked compression and it was good on both cylinders. What could cause something like this based on these symptoms? I'm worried to run it again until I figure out what happened. thanks in advance.

If it shut off like you turned the key off, I would think you have an ignition problem. Maybe a componet overheated an shut down. Those problems can be hard to find if they restart right away.

It seemed a little slower than turning off the key. Almost like I throttled down real fast. RPM's just quickly went down and it died.

So what could be some causes to this problem? Fuel pump, powerpack, etc.
