Johnson 50HP Seahorse 1975 - Reverse gear stuck

(modelno. 50ESL75B) <br /><br />With manual tilt and Johnson Command Center. <br /><br />Ran fine yesterday. <br /><br />Suddenly it is only possible to shift to forward gear and neutral. The reverse gear is stuck.<br /><br />Do I need to completely remove/dissemble the Johnson Command Center to solve this? Any ideas appreciated!

Removed the controlbox from the side of the boat and opened it. <br /><br />There was a small stainless steel ball inside that i could not figure out where it came from. It seemed to move around freely inside the box..<br /><br />Assembled the box back, probably with the ball in the wrong place, but the gears seem to work fine now.<br /><br />Some stupid questions:<br /><br />Where should the ball be?<br />What problems can i expect if the steel ball is assembled wrong (The gears seem to work ..)? <br /><br />(Johnson Sea Horse 50HP 1975, with Johnson Command Center)
