Good morning,
My Johnson is now, Following complete rebuild, running sweet.... except for one thing.
Bit of background for you (might help)
I was Given the boat, A Fletcher arrow sport 14ft, and found piston 1 in bits. 1992 Johnson 60 TLENE.
I then Rebuilt it by replacing the piston, Honing all three cylinders, and replacing all three sets of rings. (This obviously included new gaskets etc etc)
I also replaced the engine mounts (Completely trashed!)
I Dismantled and rebuild all three carbs, Inc welch plug removal etc etc.
I Replaced fuel tanks (2 x plastic 22ltr)
I Replaced the fuel lines to engine and used proper ethanol line and a new primer bulb.
Then Changed the inline filter, Plugs and Gear case oil.
All this without any experience, just alot of reading, re reading and an attitude of slow and steady!
Ok to the problem.
We use the boat to wakeboard and tow ringo's etc, and sometimes when you floor the throttle from idle it dies and kills the engine. Im not sure if its Lack of fuel, Too much fuel, or lack of spark / electrical....
The primer bulb stays hard and pushing the choke has no real effect.
If however you put it into gear, then wait a couple of seconds then ease it up, then floor it, it will go as if nothing is wrong. Sometimes however this is not the case and you have to just try again. (much to the annoyance of the wake boarder sat in the water! )
She will idle, in or out of the water, and without anyone on the back ie in the water, will go from idle, into gear and to WOT without any issue at all.... it just seems to happen when under increased load of a wake boarder....
When she does go, its fine, even with a wake boarder/ ringos on the back.
Am i just asking too much of the engine and stalling it, or is there something else i should be looking at...??
Any help greatly appreciated, esp as my local boat mechanic (Johnson dealer / specialist) is as useful as a chocolate tea pot!! I did take it to him initially, pre rebuild and post rebuild, and he took my money to check it over, and set it up "properly" but since hasnt helped with this or any of the numerous other problems ive had to sort myself! ie stalling, not idling, not going into gear, shaking and misfiring and found numerous poorly connected lines etc which were not like that when i gave it to him! ie cheap cable ties!
After months of self diagnostics, and repairs, im 99% there and at this point in time im really happy with it, if i can just get this stalling under wake boarder load sorted ill be happy as larry! (whoever Larry is!)
Thanks in advance from across the pond!
Dan
