My motor seems to be running fine, I believe that this is possibly a gear problem. At low speed the boat runs fine, but as the throttle is increased there is a loud consistent bang that is coming from the motor. The bang happens about every 5 seconds and sounds like its missing a gear. Any ideas?

Popping in and out of gear ... probably a clutch dog and/or forward gear wear problem. If anyone's messed with the shift linkage recently, it could be just and adjustment, but not very likely. Clutch dog/gear wear is usually caused by "gentle" shifting, rather than getting it into gear right now with a brisk shifting motion. The frequency of the "bangs" will likely increase to the point you will have to have the LU worked on.

Would anyone happen to know where I could get a manual for this motor ( 1968 VX-VXL-14)?
