johnson 6hp shift rod connector

I am close to finishing my conversion to long from short on my 1970 6hp.Does anyone know if i need to use the extended shift rod connector that they show in the parts cat. or if all i need is a extended shifter rod with a standerd connector???? Thanks for any input

If you are using the long shaft shift rod, just use the standard connector.
The extended connector is used when you convert a short shaft to a long shaft and retain the short shaft shift rod.

i did extension in 6 hp,1969,
i use longer water pipe, welded in 5" piece of drive shaft and longer 5" shift rod +5"spacer
