johnson 6r74c tilt lock problems

I can't seem to get my motor to tilt up . The lock seems to release from the tilt lever but I can't get it to tilt up . There is nothing in my manual that shows how to repair this . Any help would be appreciated .

If the lock is releasing from the tilt pin, how hard did you try to pull up on it ?? You may have something froze up in the bracket.

You could try backing off the torque on the nut that provides the tilt friction. The 68 that I have doesn't lock in the up position, just the down position. Best of luck. Rick.

Can you show me on a parts diagram what nut to check ? I put motor on a boat in the yard and pulled has hard as i could it didn't move but the transom moved thats all . It's nut # 27. and I think you also need to pull the reverse lock arm part #62. Rick.

Cool thanks I will check that out in a little while . Beaching the boat when you can't tilt the engine becomes a pain really quickly .

I got it working I didn't need to loosening the nut . I just sprayed the hinge with some penetrating oil and it freed up . thanks for your help
