Out on my 16 ft Key Largo CC last weekend. 2 out the three days the engine ran great. The last day placed engine in neutral idling when it stalled after about 5-10 minutes. Just kept fishing and 20 minutes later started the engine up and drove off. 5 Minutes later while going 10 mph the engine just died. Started up and went for another 5-10 min and then just died. This time it would not start for 15-20 min. Got it started and ran fine for the rest of the 2 hrs I was on the water. Took the boat out the other day and I ran the boat for an hour and had no problems while in gear, traveling @ aprox 3-4 rpm. I started to setup to fish and placed the boat in neutral, idle state and the engine died after about 5-10 minutes of idling once again. This time it took about 40 minutes before it would start. This time I had to take it out of gear and floor the throtle to get it started. I did notice a stronger smell of fuel this time and did see alittle bit of fuel in the engine case. I have only owned the boat for a month and a half now, and was hoping to take the family out on it. Can anyone give me some pointers. I don't want the boat to die out in LI sound with the family aboard. Thanks in advance. (Could this be a fuel filter issue?)

Hi, Dano.

You need to post a question, not a narrative.
Information that would help in figuring out what to suggest is really helpful, too.

We get about 150 posts a day. The ones most likely to get useful advice follow the suggestions for new posters.

Your topic is good. I know OMC 3 cylinders so I stopped to read your post. Unfortunately, your narrative tells me too little. One huge block of words is too hard to read.

The first three times I opened your post I just moved on. It would take too long to figure out what you are telling about your engine. There are literally hundreds of other posts that can be understood quickly.

Then I decided maybe I could get you to edit or reword your description of your trouble.

Give it a try. :)

dano1,

You need to do a little diagnosis when it dies.

1. When it won't start, do you have spark?
Check this by removing a spark plug, plug it back into the boot and ground it against the head. Turn the engine over and see if it fires. Try all three. If you have spark, it's probably fuel related.

2. Does you primer bulb remain hard once pumped up?

Thanks for the heads up. I will check the spark plugs and the plunger tommorrow.
*I will also word things better the next time around Should I just repost to this section with the new info or should I create a new one. As you can see I am new to this message board.

Thanks again.

Dano

Let's try to be nice. I could say that some of you are a little "challenged" if you find it that difficult to read a post that's typed in complete sentences. But that isn't nice, so I won't say that.

Sounds like the carbs are sticking occasionally and flooding out to me. Pretty cut and paste deal. Take the bowls off, spray some carb cleaner through them, and all the jets, reassemble and put a can of sea foam in the gas....and then run the **** out of the motor....Should take care of ya.

PCG

***I changed the spark plugs and the fuel filter today.
***Primed the gas plunger till it filled the fuel filter.
***Started engine (ran rought for first 1-2 minutes)and then ran well in a idle for 10-15 minutes more, no stalling.
Going to take it out in niantic tommorrow for sea test. If this does not work I will follow through with the carb cleaning and seafoam in gas tank. Thanks again guys. I will let you know how it goes....
