just like many of you i am a newbie to this forum and to the boat world. i am a vehicle mechanic, painter and bodyman and since ive never worked on an outboard i dont think its that hard especially with the help that you all are giving to people like me.
the question i have is i purchased a 72 thunderbird shawnee and for my first boat i have to admit i got the boat bug. i love the boat and so far everyone has told me that i have a great motor as well.
the question i have is that i have been loking for info on this motor(year, specs, etc) but the tag was removed. so now i and the people ive asked dont really know where i can get the exact info for it.
can anyone help me? here are pics of the motor and my boat. ill have other questions about my boat in a another thread.
ill take a close up pic as soon as i can.
thanks

The engine, at least the hood, looks like a mid to late eighties model.

Look under the hood for a casting (freeze) plug. One of them, on the block will have the model # and serial # stamped on it.

No direct videos, but all manufacturers have done excellent books with pictures about 'how to' do the most.
OEM workshop manual, the only way to go if you want to do a proper job.
Stay off the aftermarket or on-line manuals, they are normally not specific enough about your model.

Re: johnson 70 vro

The 'sime' on the cylinder block states RPH which means Replacement Power Head.
The charging system changed from rectifier to regulator in 92, this gives a 91 or older.
Part number on power pack might give a further clue.

A CDI pack that covers too many years.
Have a look at the carbs. Normally it should be a tab with part numbers on one of the screws holding the float bowl
