Hello, I have a 1986 Johnson 70hp VRO. The motor idles ok and runs good at full throttle. The issue I'm having trouble with is from idle and going to full throttle the motor will die. Will start right back up, but again die if going from idle to full throttle. If I raise the fast idle, put it back down and then throttle up 95% of the it will kick in and go. Even then sometimes with a little hesitation. On rare occasions if I throttle up really slow it will take off and go, but usually will just die. The oil injection has been removed and the fuel is mixed(50/1). Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Do a search for a lync and sync , or check your manual on how to do it. I reckon that may solve your problem.

check for a fuel problem 1st , then ignition . check compression . check throttle cam and roller that you're getting full throttle .check that the timer base is free and not sticking .70hp carb pic.jpg clean out the carb float bowls , high speed jets w/ a fine peice of wire and carb cleaner . don't flip the carb upside down before you disassemble the bowl . there'll be a varnish like sediment sitting on the bottom , so you'll want to keep it from getting into the tube . make sure the floats are parallel to the carb body or slightly above when upsidedown . make sure the gaskets are good and you don't get any air leaks . ,... my top cylinder was 'missing' cause of this and now runs like a champ .
