I took the lower unit off to change out impeller and in the process I found that the wire that runs to the solenoid through the exhaust housing has the rubber tore and each of the individual wires somewhat exposed. The tore part is located about 3" from where it goes into the solenoid. Is this replacable? How do I fix this? Can I just tape each wire with electrical tape and then tape both wires together...sort of a patch job?
It's a 50ESL72C

I wouldn't with regular elec. tape in the exhaust area. Heat resistant tape, maybe.

Try looking on flea-bay for a replacement harness. I have seen a few on there for an I/O, it would be long for an outboard, no big deal. Just a thought.

I just got off the phone with a marine mechanic and he said to use liquid electrical tape. I guess I will give that a try? You know, now that I am thinking about it I am not 100% sure that I did that damage, it may have been done prior to me owning it and before I took the LU off, it was working fine.
