Hi all,
I?m new to this forum and was directed here by the receptionist at iboat.com when I called the ?contact us? number on the site. She said it was a useful forum and probably would no doubt find someone who would be interested in my motor.
I'm not a boat person rather a horseman and rancher, however, I am somewhat encourage by the fact that so many people appear truly helpful to a couple of posters on this forum who have the very same motor and appeared to be newbie?s as well, so at the risk of sounding ignorant here goes:
I have a 1960 Johnson 75hp Super Sea Horse (Model V4S-12). The motor has both Electric Start (according to the motor cover, the starter motor on side of motor and electric cords attached) and manual start (pull card) and came with a boat and trailer I purchased for the trailer. The boat is a 1960 Elgin 17ft Cabin Cruiser fiberglass V-hull with molded lap strakes (kind of like a cabbage patch doll -- so ugly its cute). Nonetheless, I live in the land of fruits and nuts (aka California) where the lawmakers have made it against the law to use a two stroke on the waters of CA so I'm up the proverbial creek with this motor. I just thought (out of boating and outboard motor ignorance) that this complete unit could be used somewhere out of CA where intelligent people (unlike our lawmakers) live.
I cannot use it, have not used it, and as far as I know it is complete and it has not had a screw turned or even touched since I've had it (for good or for bad). I?ve stored it inside my barn. Now the wife says it must go or I go. So I, unlike so many in todays ?throw it away society?, thought someone could use it, or at least use it for parts. It is my understanding that many parts from this model, not to mention the two propellers, two control boxes and other misc parts that came with the motor, fit many different models of Johnson/Evenrude/OMC motors and I thought someone might want or need it.
Following is an excerpt from an e-mail sent to me by a local dealer I called and e-mailed on 2/4/09 here in Cali regarding the motor:
The motor is not worth anything to us. The motor cant be put on anything because of the new boating laws. You can try to sell the motor on ebay or craigs list but to us we cant do anything with it. IM sorry we could not help you out. Try to sell the motor someone might want it for parts or something. Maybe you'll get a few hundred dollars for it. Thanks for the call.
EDIT: Emails addys not allowed TD
