I took my 8.0 HP 1989 Johnson carb apart and a small plastic tube fell out. The ends were broken and there were small pieces of the hose in the bottom of the float chamber. Where does hose connect? There is a small tube that sticks up from housing and it looks like it might go there but where does the other end go? How long should it be if I use 1/8" model airplane hose? The motor would only run with partial choke(primer) and then wouln't start at all.
Thanks

Re: Johnson 8 HP Carb Hose

Middleground, thanks for the quick reply. Does the rebuild kit include the tube? Also does it attach to the brass tube that extends down for the carb body and the other end is open to the fuel in the float chamber? I used carb cleaner and then blew out the passages and it looks like all I need is a tube. Is there a particular reason I need the manual other than the owners manual doen't tell you a thing? And it says see your dealer on every page.
Thanks
Lakeguy72

Re: Johnson 8 HP Carb Hose

Middleground, thanks. I'll call a dealer to see if they have a carb kit. I want to get a 5 HP johnson (1996-2001) because it's 14 pounds lighter and would be easier to get on/off my inflatable. The 8 HP is to much for my zodiac 310 even though it's rated for 10 HP.
Lakeguy72

Middleground, I installed the rebuild kit and it still won't start without starting fluid. Then it runs for a few seconds and dies. Fuel is getting to the float chamber and the plugs appear wet. I checked the spark and it looked good(blue). Could something be wrong with timing?
Lakeguy72
