Johnson 8hp 4s carb adjustment

My 98 8hp Johnson four-stroke (white) is carbonating-up around the exhaust port with an occasional stall and whiffs of smoke..runs excellent above idle but I need to to run at idle speed or near idle. I don't have the good repair manual only the owners manual and it doesn't have any info on adjusting the carb which I'm sure I need to do. Help..it's Steelhead time on the Columbia!

I didn't frame the question well enough I guess. Where exactly is the adjustment screw that I need to fiddle with to correct this problem..I don't have a manual so I'm *guessing that's what it needs?

and you could go to shopevinrude.com and pull up an exploded diagram to find your screws....i dont know how to transfer pics or i would have looked it up for you...youll need your model #s when you get to the evinrude site
