I was out on the lake on an island , engine stopped, gave the pull start a tug, engine started, lucky for me, but did not recoil. Took the re-coil part out and brought it to the Marine store and found it had only lost the pin that goes thru the upper part, thru the plastic gear. Well that was easy.
But...
My question is do I need to "pre-load" the spring by turning the shaft via the screw atop the shaft and then putting in the pin? If so how much. I ask because w/o doing this it does not recoil. Hope this makes some sense.
