Johnson 9.9 leaks oil out the exhaust etc.

I read the pinned post about unused 2 cycle oil coming out the exhaust behind and below the head, above the cavitation plate, and out the prop. This model J10Rena is about a 1993 model. I can't believe this much is acceptable. My 1985 8hp Evinrude doesn't leak this much nor my 1979 35hp Johnson.

It looks like mud coming out the prop. I checked a sample of gear case oil and there wasn't any water in it. I haven't fine tuned the misture yet. If not that what else could it be? I use 50:1 misture. Thanks. Bob

What you are seeing is unburned oil from combustion and is perfectly normal. Yurs may be on the high side if your fuel to oil ratio is on the high side.

A change to a synthetic or synthetic blend oil may well lessen the amount showing.

I have changed to full synthetic, with a change noticed.

I thought about going to 40:1 but read where that isn't advised anymore.

do you do a lot of trolling or slow speed running, if so open you plug gap an additional .005. will cut down on plug fouling, and burn fuel better.

It's hard to gauge from here just how much is excessive. Some will be there for sure. A couple of things come to mind if it is excessive. After a long troll I always give my motor a five or tenn minute run at full throttle to clean things up before parking it. Another thing that could be happening is that your running on one cylinder. This will cause excessive oil accumulation at the prop as well as other performance problems. Best of luck, Rick.

Yes I do some slow speed trolling and I have to idle for a mile in no wake water. If it was only hitting on one cylinder I would know it.
