ive bee ntrying to figure out what is wrong with the water circulation on a 1989 johnson 9.9. Ive taken the lower unit off and connected a hose to the bottom of the water inlet tube. The water is circulating completely through the motor but the water is exiting from around the oversized hole the water tube passes through (~2" above the water pump) and not the through the exhaust tube. I shined a light through the outlet hole where the hot water leaves the bottom of the head and can see the light when i look up the exhaust tube from the bottom. From an online manual ive read that water coming from the hole the inlet tube passes through should only be caused by a bad exhaust tube gasket or the water tube outlet grommet being squat or plugging the hole out somehow but apparently its rare, and i can see the light when shined in the head so i dont understand why theres no water coming from the exhaust when the hose is on. The motor was not running since i had it set up in my kitchen, ive seen from another thread that there wont be much flow from the exhaust tube if the motor is not running when on a hose/muffs,, is this right??
