success - found the washer for both screws by hand tighten them and then unscrew them with my fingers, the washers just came back out with the screws. Amazing trick.
I was able to pump the oil in, but 32 oz (1 bottle) oil was not enough??

You should pump oil in until it starts to overflow from the level screw hole. Then refit the screw. Remove the pump and quickly refit the drain screw.

It is always recommended that you fit new sealing washers, but if its any consolation I have been reusing the old washers every time since 1985.

Finally finished changing the lower unit oil and created 4 parts of video - lol, I know I need to take it apart to check for water after my water test run next week, so will repeat the process and buy more oil. But, no video will be made and much faster than this one. Thanks everyone. You guys rock!!!

Don't know specifically about yours, but my Johnson 50 takes a flat nylon washer on the bottom and a O ring on the top screw. My 88 Johnson 70 was the same configuration, flat nylon on the bottom O ring on the top.

But they should both have seals of some kind. Water in or oil out is both bad news.

Here's some possible hints for next time.

1) The pickup pipe on the pump is probably extendable by loosening the gland nut on the pickup.
2) Do the swap from pump to plug with the top plug in place to stop the oil gushing out.
3) It didn't look like you tightened the plugs very much so check what they should be torqued to.
